Figuring out what questions to ask yourself when defining your life purpose can be confusing, tiring and overwhelming. It can feel like your trying to figure out the next winning lotto numbers or finding that elusive needle in a haystack of information overload and opinions of others.

Is it not surprising that so many of us run for the comforting covers and warmth of our beds. Hiding from life in the hope that our life purpose will arrive at the foot of our beds like Santa.

After I had my three babies, I had no idea what I was meant to do with myself. I knew I didn’t want to go back to the work I did before my kids because I wanted to be more available as a mum.

I didn’t feel connected to my “old life” and I didn’t fit the mould of other mums I’d talk to in the school playground.

I knew I was meant for more! But be buggered if I could figure out what was next for me, “my life purpose”.

I’d love to say to you that with a smile on my face and a spring in my step I just stumbled upon what my life purpose was, however, it didn’t go like that for me.

Instead, I had to have many failures, breakdowns and nights lying awake before I realised that if I was to create a different, more purposeful and fulfilled life for myself and my family, I had to ask myself some hard-hitting empowering questions. Questions that would help me gain clarity and insight into my life purpose.

Defining your life purpose doesn’t, for most of us, hit us like a bolt of lightning or arrive in a sack from the man in a red coat and white beard. It normally takes a little love filled soul digging. And some empowering questions to ask yourself.

So sister, let me share with you a handful of empowering questions to ask yourself over a warm tea or coffee to help you when defining your life purpose.

Questions to ask yourself when defining your life purpose

Before you sit down to ask yourself these questions, find a nice quiet place where you won’t be distracted. Take a little time to reconnect with your breathe and create a feeling of ease within, and remember to have a pen and paper ?

1. What did you love to do as a child? What kind of people did you love to hang out with? How do you love to dress?

2. What do you love to do on weekends, the times when you are not working?

3. If money and education weren’t holding you back, what would you love to do?

4. What activities or projects make you lose track of time?

5. What puts a smile on your face no matter what? (This could be experiences, activities, things, hobbies, anything at all).

6. What makes you feel free, powerful or good about yourself. What do you do that makes you feel alive to life?

7. If you could solve one problem in the world what would that be?

8. What do people always compliment you on? What do they come to you for help with? What are your natural abilities, skills, talents, gifts? What is easy for you and hard for other people?
