There was a time when self-care and self-love where two words that I couldn’t fathom putting together. I mean how the heck are you supposed to take time for self-care when there is barely enough time to get all the school permission slips, lunches and ironing done for the week ahead!?

That was until I lost my shizzle over burnt toast shedding big fat tears.

You know you’re deep in the trenches of motherhood when you are eating the burnt toast your kid rejected because the thought of cooking more toast for yourself feels overwhelming and just another thing to do.

I remember when being a busy working mum felt like I was at war, especially at mealtimes. I would be at war with my fatigue, my emotions swinging from mood to mood and my overwhelming feelings of guilt, because I was trying my best to look after the needs of everyone but I felt like I was getting it all wrong.

Over time I became resentful, angry, emotional, distant…the list goes on. That was until the fateful morning whilst eating burnt toast I couldn’t contain my big fat tears any longer.

This was the moment I realised that I had two choices

1. Continue to be at war feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, stressed, time-poor and simply living to exist

OR

2. Give myself some credit for what I have done and do and show myself some self-love and self-care and take back control

So with my white tissue waving high above my head signally peace and time out to the universe, I put my own needs first. Yep, it was scary, I was afraid of what others would think, what my mum would say…And the mum guilt was enormous.

But here is the thing once I put myself before my kids, hubby, cats, dogs, bird (you know the drill even the household plants get better attention than you) I was a better mum, enjoyed my hubby and our time together more, was more productive at work, found it easier to save money, my health improved 10 fold, I was feeling so happy and at peace and…I started to remember how good it felt to be me!

With renewed confidence, higher self-esteem and self-worth and greater amounts of energy, I started pursuing my passions and achieving long-held goals and dreams.

Do you let people set the rules and make the decisions around your time?

Do you put off doing exercise because there is no time or feel guilty doing something for yourself?

If you answered yes to any of the above questions than sister it’s time to raise your own white flag and dive into some self-care and self-love.

Self-Care and Self-Love

Self-care and Self-love is the number one reason why you aren’t achieving the goals or manifesting the dreams you have in your heart. It can also be the reason you aren’t seeing the results you are expecting from all you do.

Everything that happens to you is a reflection of how you are truly feeling on the inside.

If you are noticing that people are taking advantage of you or you are continuously getting sick or you are getting into relationships that are not filling your cup or arguing more with those you love, it’s time to look at yourself and make the changes needed and stop pretending everything is ok.

It’s time to take the foot of the gas, and take time to reset and make self-care and self-love your priority!
