As a working mum, it’s not all sunshine, painting, lollipops and slow coffee dates with girlfriends. In fact, if I’m honest it’s more like tears, fatigue-induced brain fog and the odd tantrum thrown in to keep us on our toes. As we start to roll into a long weekend here are 3 fun and easy weekend self-care ideas for mums.
Self-Care is those things we do that restore our energy, put the spring back in our step and help us feel happier and more optimistic (even when the kids are being…kids).
Not only does a little daily dose of self-care help you feel better about yourself but it is also proven to help with anxiety, feelings of loneliness and depression which as a mum I know there are times when getting out of these deep funks feels like a herculean effort.
With the extra days over the weekend, carve out some YOU time. Time for self-care, time for feet up, time to recharge your “Mum” batteries.

Get dressed up.
Take a luxurious shower and shave your legs.
Take time putting on the body lotions and perfume. Put the lippy on, the big jewellery reserved for only special occasions, heck even strut around in your favourite high heels or boots.
The idea is you are dressing for you. Not to please your partner or someone else but YOU.
Crank up the tunes.
Have you heard the term dance like no one is watching? Well, sister whether you’re an ex back up dancer for Jo-Lo or you have two left feet. Crank up your favourite tune and dance around the house like no one is watching – This has to be the ultimate mood shifter.
Set goals and dream
I believe that we are all only truly happy and feeling alive when we are pursuing a goal or dream.
For some, this will feel uncomfortable and scary and that’s ok. We have all felt that however, I promise you that the water inside the pool of possibility is…calm and exciting.
So take some time daily to write down a goal you have. Close your eyes and step into the energy of your goal. Imagine that it’s already been done. Then…
Write down all you saw and felt then reverse engineer. Which means what steps do you know you must take to get you closer to achieving your goal. Don’t overthink this, simply free write.
Next, look at what you have written down and ask yourself this key question “What is the one thing I can do today that will help me reach my goal?”. Action that step, take that leap and the next right step will open itself up to you.
